Porcelain Crowns Caps

Your Options for Natural-Looking Crowns

Crowns are among the most common types of dental restorations for an excellent reason. They are very versatile and can be a solution for various oral health issues, restoring not just the health and function of your tooth but also its natural appearance. The team of professionals at Shadowridge Dental Group provides fantastic services to help their patients in the San Marcos and Vista, CA area expand the lifespan of dental crowns.

What are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns, also known as “Tooth Caps or Caps,” are custom-made dental restorations that cover the entire surface of your tooth. This must-purpose restoration can be used in various ways, such as:

  • Holding the pieces of a fractured tooth together
  • Restoring and protecting the function of a tooth that’s experienced many restorations over time
  • Repairing the biting surface of a tooth that’s worn down
  • Anchoring a dental bridge securely in place
  • Finishing a dental implant that’s replacing a missing tooth
  • Protecting and restoring a tooth just after root canal surgery
  • Improving the cosmetic appearance of a damaged or unattractive tooth

There are different varieties of dental crowns. However, porcelain crowns are by far the most popular because they look, feel, and function just like natural tooth material. Other options include materials like gold and stainless steel.

The Crowning Process

Getting a dental crown placed is a relatively simple procedure. First, you’ll need to visit our office to have your tooth repaired to fit your new crown and have dental impressions taken. With these impressions, we will have your new crown custom-fabricated in a dental laboratory to ensure a perfect fit. At this point, we will place a temporary crown on your tooth to protect it while your new crown is being crafted. Once it is ready, you will re-visit us, and Dr. Moran will place your new crown, checking to ensure it fits appropriately while making minor adjustments if necessary. Then he bonds the crown onto your tooth using a professional-grade dental cement substance.
